2017 Summer Reading Program
Research shows that the best way to maintain or improve one's reading skills is by reading. In order to maintain student skill levels over the 10 weeks of summer break, the Palatine English department offers students a voluntary summer reading program.
This summer, English teachers Ms. Tillander and Mr. Fisher will host a book club at Christies Dairy Delights N' Coffee House in downtown Palatine. We will be having ice cream, coffee, and hot cocoa.
On Friday, June 23rd at 2 PM - When We Collided by Emery Lord
Friday, July 21st at 2 PM - Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson
The cost is three dollars per student unless you are on free and reduced lunch and then come talk to us and you can go for free! We will also work out getting books to students who are unable to purchase a book on their own.
Please direct questions to either Ms. Tillander at [email protected] or Mr. Fisher at [email protected].

2017 Summer Reading Requirements
for AP Students
Students scheduled to take one of our Advanced Placement courses have summer reading requirements. This required reading helps expose students to a greater number of titles likely to show up on the AP Exam, which increases their chances for success.
Students enrolled in one of the following courses for the coming year must read the titles noted before returning to school in August. Click on a course title below to get information on the required titles and related assignments that students may be expected to complete.
Of course, accelerated/AP students are also encouraged to participate in the general Summer Reading Program if they wish.
Details about the 2017 required readings for accelerated/AP students can be found in the parent letters that are linked below.
